Calling NORAD to track Santa on Christmas Eve
NORAD, the U.S. and Canadian aerospace defense command, and its predecessor CONAD have tracked Santa every year since 1955. On Dec. 24, the NORAD Tracks Santa Operations Center takes calls at 1-877-HI-NORAD (1-877-446-6723), where a Santa Tracker tells callers where Santa is at that moment.
NORAD's FAQ says the center is fully operational from 4 AM Mountain Standard Time on Dec. 24 and that operators are available until midnight MST. In Murfreesboro, on Central time, that works out to 5 AM on Christmas Eve until 1 AM on Christmas morning. The FAQ is not dated, and the NORAD Tracks Santa site carried a 2025 copyright as of October 2026, so families should confirm the hours on noradsanta.org closer to Christmas. The site also offers NORAD Santa Tracker apps for Android and iOS and asks families to come back on Dec. 24 to follow Santa's flight.
Video calls and personalized calls from Santa
Portable North Pole, published by UGroupMedia of Montreal since 2008, lets parents set up personalized Santa video messages, recorded or live phone calls from Santa, live video calls and two-way Talk to Santa conversations. It runs on the web and in a free iOS and Android app. A trial Santa video is free and is usually available until Dec. 19; calls, live chats, longer videos and bedtime stories are Premium experiences, bought one at a time or through a Magic Pass that covers every child on a family's list.
Tips for Parents
Expect a text
Santa's Hotline texts the calling number afterward. Using its click-to-call button opts that phone in to texts; message and data rates may apply, and replying STOP ends them.
Preview first
Portable North Pole says parents control the details they share and can read and approve any story or conversation before a child sees it.
Bedtime matters
NORAD Tracks Santa says Santa arrives only when children are asleep, usually between 9 PM and midnight on Dec. 24, and moves on if they are still awake.
