I-24 Weekend Ramp Closures in Rutherford County: Sam Ridley, Almaville and Waldron

TDOT contractors are closing I-24 ramps at Sam Ridley Parkway, Almaville Road and Waldron Road on weekends through Oct. 17 for concrete repair. Here is the weekend-by-weekend schedule, plus other Murfreesboro road work.

Drivers on Interstate 24 in northern Rutherford County should plan for weekend ramp and lane closures through mid-October. Beginning the weekend of Sept. 25 and continuing for four consecutive weekends, Tennessee Department of Transportation contractors are doing concrete repair on I-24 ramps at Exit 64 (Waldron Road), Exit 66 (Sam Ridley Parkway) and Exit 70 (Almaville Road), according to TDOT's schedule published by Rutherford Source.

When the Ramps Close

Each weekend, ramp closures start with an overnight closure from 8 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday. The ramps close again from 8 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Sunday. Advance signs will be posted.

• Exit 64 (Waldron Road) westbound on-ramp: partial closure

Weekend of Oct. 2-3

• Exit 66A (W. Sam Ridley Parkway) eastbound off-ramp: full closure
• Exit 66B (E. Sam Ridley Parkway) eastbound off-ramp: full closure
• Exit 70 (Almaville Road) eastbound off-ramp: lane shift
• Exit 66 (Sam Ridley Parkway) westbound off-ramp: lane shift
• Exit 64 (Waldron Road) westbound off-ramp: partial closure

With both eastbound Sam Ridley exits closed that weekend, drivers headed to Smyrna from Nashville will need another exit. Exit 70 at Almaville Road is open eastbound with a lane shift.

Weekends of Oct. 9-10 and Oct. 16-17

Intermittent nightly lane closures along I-24 in both directions from near Exit 66 (Sam Ridley Parkway) to Exit 70 (Almaville Road) for joint replacement.

Events Affected

The Oct. 2-3 closures overlap with the start of fall break, when many families will be heading to Walden Pumpkin Farm off Rocky Fork Road in Smyrna. The City of Murfreesboro's weekly road projects update for Sept. 20-26 lists:

• Medical Center Parkway widening near Thompson Lane and Gateway Boulevard, and TDOT work on the I-24 Exit 76 (Medical Center Parkway) ramps
• North Thompson Lane widening by TDOT

The North Thompson Lane (State Route 268) project will widen 4.3 miles between Northwest Broad Street and Memorial Boulevard to four lanes plus a center turn lane, with sidewalks, a shared-use path, a new bridge over the West Fork Stones River, three new signals and two upgraded ones, according to Murfreesboro.com. Completion is estimated for the second quarter of 2030, and lane closures run 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on school days.
