New WeGo Park and Ride Opens at Murfreesboro Transit Center

A new, permanent WeGo Park and Ride is open next to the Murfreesboro Transit Center, giving commuters 75 parking spaces at 725 Bridge Ave. and a direct connection to WeGo Route 84, the Murfreesboro express bus to and from downtown Nashville. WeGo Public Transit, the City of Murfreesboro and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) announced the opening on Oct. 16, 2026.

The city describes the site as a first-of-its-kind regional connectivity hub in Middle Tennessee, because riders can switch between the Nashville express bus and Murfreesboro Transit's local routes in one place.

Where is the Murfreesboro Park and Ride?

The Park and Ride is at 725 Bridge Avenue, beside the Murfreesboro Transit Center. The city lists the transit center's address as 324 New Salem Highway; its Passenger Pavilion, a covered open-air waiting area with seating, restrooms, fans and radiant heaters, is reached from Bridge Avenue.

WeGo's Park and Ride page lists the lot as "Murfreesboro Park & Ride, 725 Bridge Ave." served by Route 84. WeGo says parking at its Park and Ride locations is free for transit customers, carpoolers and vanpoolers, as posted.

What is WeGo Route 84?

Route 84 Murfreesboro is WeGo's regional express bus between Murfreesboro and Nashville. The current route schedule on WeGo's website shows these timepoints:

  • Elizabeth Duff Transit Center at WeGo Central (Bay 7), downtown Nashville
  • Greyhound bus station, Nashville
  • Murfreesboro Transit Center
  • MTSU, James Union Building

The schedule shows weekday trips in both directions, with no service on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays. Trip times are on WeGo's Route 84 page, which also lists any active detours.

How much does the Route 84 express bus cost?

WeGo's published regional bus fares are:

| Fare | Price | |---|---| | 1-ride regional bus | $4.25 | | 1-ride regional bus, discounted | $2.00 | | 20-ride regional bus | $73.50 |

Discounted fares are available to eligible youth, seniors, people with disabilities and Medicare cardholders who have a WeGo Discount ID. The Route 84 schedule says active military members and veterans ride free with military ID, and children 4 and younger ride free. WeGo accepts its QuickTicket card or app, contactless debit or credit cards, mobile wallets or exact cash.

Who paid for the Park and Ride?

TDOT contributed $1.3 million through its IMPROVE Transit Investment Grant, according to TDOT Deputy Commissioner Preston Elliott, who called the site "a regional hub that supports commuters today."

Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland said the Park and Ride is an example of partnerships that improve access to "jobs, medical appointments, shopping, and entertainment" in both cities. WeGo CEO Steve Bland said riders can relax on a coach bus while operators handle rush hour on I-24.

The announcement says the site is a model for similar partnerships with other suburban cities around Nashville, an idea first identified in WeGo's 2016 nMotion Strategic Plan. Elliott also tied the project to the I-24 Southeast Choice Lanes, which TDOT says will give transit a time-saving advantage between Nashville and Murfreesboro.

Connecting to Murfreesboro Transit

Murfreesboro Transit routes start and transfer at the transit center. The city says it runs eight routes, Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., with limited Saturday service on Highland Avenue, MLK Boulevard and The Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Every bus has a bike rack and is ADA-accessible, and the transit center has a bike rack as well.

For other ways to make the trip, see OnlyInMurfreesboro's Murfreesboro to Nashville guide. Route 84 also stops at MTSU; the MTSU guide covers the campus. Commuters who still drive can check the latest I-24 weekend ramp closures, and newcomers can find more in the moving to Murfreesboro guide.
