Discovery Design Time
About This Event
This week’s Discovery Design Time gets textural with Monster Textures, a Monsters in the Museum-themed session exploring how artists use implied texture — specific brush techniques that make a painted surface look real, whether it’s fluffy clouds, rough brick, or a scaly monster hide. Guests will practice three signature techniques using different brush types: smooth surfaces with a flat brush, fuzzy fur with a fan brush, and overlapping scales with a filbert brush. Once they’ve built confidence with each technique, guests will put their new skills to the test by designing an original monster that combines smooth, fuzzy, and scaly textures. Guests will build new vocabulary like brush types and implied texture, while strengthening painting technique, medium exploration, and observation skills.
